Mother Love



I agree that a Mother's love, including birthing and adopting children, as well as for family and friends, represents the closest we humans get to God's Love. The apostle John tells us, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life" (3:16. NRSV).  By universal standard, that's BIG LOVE.  In fact, some Protestant denominations refer to the Sovereign God as  "Father-Mother God" or the "double-breasted God."  I'm not proselytizing, just sayin'.

Unequivocally, however, I attest to the power of Mother Love, tracing it from (Grand)Mama, Mother's revered mama, to Mother, and the countless moms who gave birth or were blessed to care for, guide, and tend to so many---that consummate love.  Mothers seem unable to stem, stifle,  or stop love from gushing over with gusto! Again, I'm just sayin".  

The official second Sunday in May Mothers Day celebrations hasn't prompted this unabashed ode to mothers.   First of all, if you answer to "Mother, Ma, Muh Dear,  or any "Mom" endearment, every day presents as Mothers Day! We don't stop mothering the Monday after the second Sunday in May.  No way, Jose! Mothers mother every minute, hour, day, week...you get my drift, I hope.  

I figured out long ago that Father God gave each of us more than one mother. Why? How? Only He is Omnipotent, Omnipresent, and Omniscient. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8-9, NRSV).  One mother could not meet the myriad needs, desires, dreams, and expectations of even one child (or adult, for that matter)! 

Parenthetically, I acknowledge that not all adult females meet the criteria of "motherhood." Yet, I posit that the seeds live within, but that's another blog entirely. Just sayin'.  

Trust me, most adults still need mothering long past the age of consent.  Consequently, God gives us the mother who can meet a specific longing or yearning as it is needed.  His bonus? He still allows us to keep the original one. As beneficiaries of Mother Love, then, what constitutes a proper response? Glad you asked! Universally,

She's a love that's everything,

Worth more than diamonds and gold.

We thank God for our mothers,

Hush, hush. Somebody's calling my name

Listen .  In order to hear anything, one has to learn how to listen (which may be problematic since "listening skills" rarely are taught in K-12 curriculum, whether in language arts, English, or speech classes).  I remember teachers reminding students, especially rambunctious ones, "You have two ears and one mouth for a reason!"  They rarely followed up with "listening skills development" techniques.  Adults admonished us to save our "outdoor voices" for the playground or basket ball courts.  Nowadays, noise bombards  us, so much so that its opposite typically brings pause.  What's wrong? It's too  quiet.  Put on some music; turn on the television; even, "whistle while you work!"
